4th Grade Ink and Watercolor/Chalk Houses!

These are quite spectacular pieces of work by our 4th graders!  We found our houses on Google Earth and printed out a color copy that we then gridded to match our 12x18 paper.  We drew our houses in pencil, looking especially at details of texture and trim.  Then we used fine calligraphy pens to go over our pencil lines carefully and when the ink dried, we erased out the pencil lines.  Color was added with watercolor or colored pencil or soft pastel.

Fourth graders have been working hard to finish up their circus acts!  Their performers and props are housed in the glass cabinets outside Art Room 168, so please do come on up and take a look!  See if you can figure out what recyled objects were used to make the circus!

And here are links to our circuses on youtube~  please feel free to share!

4th Grade Calder's CIrcus!

In fourth grade we are building circuses from recyled materials and using engineering skills to manipulate our creations.  First we watched Calder's Circus (video above!) and saw how this famous American artist used imagination and play to create five suitcases full of  circus acts that he brought back and forth from Paris to the US, performing for friends for years.

Here are some in progress shots of our students working out their ideas!
